Why do I have to drive all the way to Kent's Hill to play another LAYHL team?
LAYHL has about 30 teams to schedule for practices and games. The league has to purchase ice time at Hebron, Kent's Hill, Auburn, Bates College and the Colisee for games and practices. The area high school teams, women's/men's leagues... and other events all purchase ice time as well, making ice time hard to purchase.
How is the LAYHL board members picked?
The President, Vice President and Secretary are voted on by the membership. The term for each position is 2 years and the voting takes place in May/June. The term starts in July. The rest of the board positions, Treasurer,...... are voted on by the current Board of Directors, also 2 year terms.
What is Tier 1 and 2 Travel Team?
This is a regional travel team "Gladiators" Squirts, Peewees and Bantams. Try outs are typically the spring prior to the fall hockey season. The Gladiators are governed by their own board but use the LAYHL website to disperse information. The team will play many games in Mass. as well as Maine.
Are the Gladiators part of LAYHL?
No. The Maine Hockey Association Board mandated that each zone in Maine develop a Tier 1 travel team.
The Gladiators are governed by their own board of directors. LAYHL allows the Gladiators to use thier website to communicate to the Lewiston Area part of the zone. LAYHL, Auburn, Western Maine and Midcoast are included in that zone and you may find Gladiator information on their websites as well. each area has representation on the board:
